Biography
Born in Canberra, George Timotheou is regarded as one of the country’s most promising centre-backs, having played in Germany with Bundesliga giants FC Schalke 04, as well as Belgian outfit, Zulte Waregem. The 23-year-old joined the German outfit in 2018 from Sydney Olympic, signing with the club’s reserves squad and quickly forced his way into training with the first team after a string of impressive performances. Following 23 appearances with FC Schalke 04 II, Timotheou made his professional debut for the Royal Blues on the final day of the 2018/19 season, playing the entire 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw against VfB Stuttgart. The technically gifted centre-half arrived in Adelaide on a two-year deal and bolstered United's defensive stocks. In his debut season, he featured 14 times for the Reds.
