Young Reds take on Playford

The Adelaide United Youth Team will host Playford Patriots in Round 7 of NPL State League at the Elite Systems Football Centre on Saturday afternoon.

The Young Reds who are currently sitting top of the NPL State League have just come off a tough away trip against Northern Demons but are ready to play come Saturday afternoon.

Consistent defender Oliver Zafridis believes the Young Reds are ready for the challenge but insists they need to focus on consistency to remain adrift from the other sides in the competition.

“The boys are feeling confident going into the match. We’ve obviously had a good start to the season and we have been training at The Parks so we have a good feel of the pitch, so it should be an exciting contest” said Zafridis.

“We just need to make sure we are consistent each match we play. Coming off a tough schedule, it’s sometimes easy to lose focus, but if we can concentrate on that, we will have a terrific season in the NPL.”

The Young Reds are only just returning to normal training after a highly congested month of football and defender Oliver Zafridis believes the boys are still taking time to recover but is confident that full on training isn’t far away.

“All of us boys are still recovering and we are not quite 100% fit just yet. It was a tough couple of weeks with all the games, so by the start of next week we should be getting back into normal training again” said Zafridis.

The Adelaide United Youth Team has adjusted to the NPL in spectacular fashion with six wins and a draw in their opening seven matches. However, Oliver Zafridis understands the pressure of being top of the ladder by not hiding the fact that every team rises with each game they play.

“If we stick to our normal game and stick to the style we play, we should be able to pick up points against teams, although we have been pushed to our limits earlier on this season.” said Zafridis.

“There are plenty of areas we can fix to remain at the top of the table but we know every team will lift when they play us. We’ve been coping well so far and need to continue it”.
