Adelaide United Youth team have finished their 2013/14 season in style with 4-2 victory against Perth Glory last Saturday afternoon at Thebarton Oval. The Young Reds took a while to work their way into to the match with the Reds conceding a goal before sparking into life. The Reds leveled a short time later through Barker-Daish and went into half time 2-1 up after Anthony Costa found the back of the net.

Adelaide had some good periods after the break and were rewarded with goal scoring opportunities which were importantly taken. Perth scored another goal in the second half to keep the match alive but Costa scored two more goals to complete his hat-trick and the Young Reds finished 4-2 winners.
Winning the last game of the season meant the Young Reds finish in fourth position on the Foxtel National Youth League ladder. This is a great achievement, especially after implementing a new style and philosophy which we will be looking to build on next season. On another positive note, Anthony Costa won the top goal scorer in the Foxtel National Youth League this season with his second hat-trick for the year against Perth helping him take out the award by one goal.

Coach Michael Valkanis had this to say about the season. “Overall it-s been a very good season. We have played a great style of football all year – even in the games we have lost. The style of football we have played has resulted in us playing very positive attacking football, which has directly resulted in a lot of goals being scored. As a by-product Anthony Costa won the top goal scorer in the Foxtel National Youth League. On another note it was great to see Nathan Konstandopoulos, Ryan Kitto and Anthony Costa get a taste of senior football with the A-League side. It is also a positive indicator that 5 NYL players are still training with the senior team now that the Youth League season has finished”.
