The Adelaide United Youth Team has fallen to the Cove 2-1 in round 17 of the NPL State League on Saturday afternoon.

In windy conditions, the Young Reds started the more promising. Controlling possession and shifting the ball side to side forcing the Cove to defend in numbers at all times.

Despite the early possession which United had, it was the Cove who scored the first goal of the match. A sublime turn and volley by Kyle Markham in the 7th minute stunned the away fans as the Cove went up 1-0 inside 10 minutes.

With Adelaide down a goal early on, they focused on keeping possession in hopes of drawing the Cove defence out and looking for a ball inside to marksman Doni Pollock.

However, the Cove defence stood up having a large number of players within their defensive half.

The Young Reds also tried to use the flanks through Yianni Nestoras and Samed Altundag.

In the 16th minute some lovely work on the wing by Samed Altundag enabled him to get past his opponent and cross in a low driven cross which the arriving Yianni Nestoras hit the ball seeing keeper Alex Tate expertly tip the ball over the bar.

With Adelaide not able to capitalise on their chances, they were made to pay by the Cove. Keeper Alex Tate kicked a high ball up in the air, as Kyle Markham ran through the defence and headed the ball over reds keeper Alex Woodlands to give the Cove a 2-0 advantage.

The chances created throughout the rest of the first half were seemingly half chances, as the United Youth grasped a strong hold of the game through its dominance in possession and willingness to hold the football but still trailed 2-0.

After the interval the game heated up, seeing a member from each side shown a red card inside the opening 10 minutes.

As each side were down a man, the game opened up with Adelaide able to control the football with a lot of space provided.

However, the Cove was up to the challenge not allowing the Young Reds room near the 18 yard box which became frustrating.

Alex Woodlands pulled off a sublime save in the 65th minute after a fantastic diving effort saw him tip the ball away to safety.

The Young Reds kept pushing, although were not able to register a goal falling to its fifth defeat of the season as the Cove downed the Young Reds 2-0.
