On Sunday afternoon the Adelaide United Youth Team will be hosting the Western Sydney Wanderers Youth Team in round Nine of the Foxtel National Youth League.

Over the past few weeks the Young Reds have started to show some good form which resulted in a one-nil victory over the Newcastle Jets last week.

A hard fought battle, Adelaide Coach Michael Valkanis was happy with the boys’ performance.

“The boys did well last week and all the things we worked on in training they did very well, he said.

“But every week is a little different in the youth league in regards to we’re going lose some (players) to the (first) team”

With such a busy schedule with the match just gone on Friday night along with the Westfield FFA Cup Final against Perth on Tuesday, the team has been reshuffled.

In this week’s encounter, the Young Reds will be looking to win their home bout after losing in their last encounter against the Wanderers.

Last time these two teams met both team had their chances and was able to dominate in periods throughout the game.

“We played a very strong team last time in regards to their team…we conceded a goal late in the 89th minute,” said Valkanis

“I think that day we played very well, we created lots of good goal scoring opportunities but we didn’t take them.”

As usual Adelaide will focus on the way they play as they look to play an attacking style of football.

And With a slightly adjusted formation and a younger side then their last clash, Michael Valkanis is confident ahead of this week’s encounter.

“It’s more about how the team plays,” said Valkanis.

“We’ve (Adelaide United) changed a formation a little bit as well…So we’ll go out there and attack and create as many goal scoring opportunities as possible.”

Adelaide United Youth Team will take on Western Sydney Wanderers Youth Team this Sunday afternoon at the Adelaide Football Shores Sports Complex. Kick-off 2:30pm. Free entry.
