Adelaide United Women vice-captain, Kahlia Hogg, believes the bye has allowed the team to reset and improve on a few areas.

The Reds are winless to begin the new season but have arguably played the three best teams in the competition, based on their league positions.

A last-minute loss to Western Sydney Wanderers Women was followed up by narrow 1-0 defeats to Sydney FC Women and Melbourne City Women.

“I think having the three losses despite playing well was not the way we wanted to start the season,” Hogg said speaking to AUFC Media.

“So this has given us a chance to come together as a group and give us an extra week of training together and I think we’re really raring to go for this weekend.”

Adelaide’s focus now turns to Saturday’s opponents in Brisbane Roar Women, who collected their first three points of the campaign after a 2-1 win at Canberra United Women the previous round.

Hogg expected a tough game but insisted the Reds will be doing everything they can to secure a victory.

“I think coming off their win Brisbane is going to be ready to go,” she said.

“They’re back at home, early afternoon game up in their heat, it favours them to some degree, but for us we’re just willing to challenge and I think everyone is really driven to get the result this weekend.”

Adelaide have been more than competitive to start the season but have just been unable to convert their opportunities into goals.

The 26-year-old midfielder hoped their fortunes will change moving forward and that their solid performances will eventually be rewarded.

“I think we just want to keep building,” she continued.

“We’ve had some really good performances, we’ve improved every week for the most part.

“So for us it’s just focusing on our game, not being too distracted by what Brisbane’s going to do and trying to match them.

“But to focus on what we’ve been doing and building and like you said we’ve got to score goals.

“At the end of the day you can play great football, but until you score it doesn’t really matter.”
