Adelaide United return home in a bid to keep the Newcastle Jets grounded in the Westfield W-League at Marden Sports Complex on Saturday.
Reds’ Head Coach, Ivan Karlovic, admitted that tenacity in front of goal will be fundamental to winning games this season, as the chances are there and there is quality up-front to accomplish what they set out to do every week.
Despite a solid performance at the back, Adelaide United fell to Brisbane Roar, 1-0, at Suncorp Stadium last week, as the one goal late in the match proved to be the difference.
Meanwhile, the Novocastrians were also defeated, at the hands of a stellar Canberra United in a 1-2 result.
Turning to this week’s match at home, both clubs will be gunning for the three points and to get more of their confidence back.
Karlovic said the loss to Roar was a tough one to swallow, but he has no doubt that his side will come back even stronger.
“It was definitely a tough loss, and it was hard to take, but we move on to the next match against Newcastle Jets,” Karlovic said.
“This week, we will need to take our chances as it was proven that just one goal can win you the match.
“Katie Naughton had a great chance, and Makenzy Doniak hit the post so the chances definitely arise for us and exist.
“We will keep working hard and we remain confident, so it’s a matter of finishing those chances and we will win games.
“Defensively we were sound and unfortunately it just came down to one goal, and we’ll take it as a lesson learnt.”
“Newcastle will definitely come out strong, but we will be at home and we’ll apply the pressure.”
Danielle Colaprico is a huge inclusion for the squad, returning to face the Jets, in which Karlovic said is a massive help.
“Danielle (Colaprico) back is definitely good news and will provide more depth and that link in midfield”
“She is a great, professional player and is composed.
“She works well with the rest of the team and will be a force on game day.”
Adelaide United Women will face Newcastle Jets in Round 5 of the Westfield W-League on Saturday, 25 November at Marden Sports Complex. Kick-off is at 7.00pm. The Young Reds will face Melbourne City in a Foxtel Y-League curtain raiser at 4:00pm. Gates open 3:30pm.
