Adelaide United Women will be searching for their elusive first win of the Westfield W-League season, although having displayed auspicious performances in recent weeks. It will be a prime opportunity as they will play in a broadcasted curtain-raiser to the Hyundai A-League match between Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United, at the respective home of the Roar.

The Reds Women were forced to settle for a 2-2 stalemate last weekend, after a valiant effort against Canberra United, while the Sunshine State outfit suffered a 2-1 loss to Melbourne City Women at home, both sides will be ready to compete for three points, after promising performances.

Adelaide United Women Boss, Skenderovic is hopeful his women’s side can be successful this weekend, along with the admirable performances of both Adelaide United teams, and believes the momentum and confidence from their previous matches will play a part in achieving a victory.

“We believe in our abilities and are a very confident group, and it is not like we have been defeated badly by any team, we know we have been quite unlucky in getting the results, but it still gives us a lot of confidence moving forward,” Skenderovic said.

“Especially with the teams we have played being very strong, and we have dominated areas of play, and are dangerous on the counter-attack.

“It’s not like we have lost to huge margins either, and we have been competitive in every game, and should have won a couple of them, but our confidence remains high and we will take that confidence into this league.”

Skenderovic has revealed that their finishing has let them down in recent matches, and not executing chances that could have potentially seen the Adelaide United Women with a higher position on the W-League standings, but is positive they can deliver against Brisbane Roar at Suncorp in Round 6.

“We are creating plenty of chances that look promising, but our finishing must be improved on if we want to win games,” Skenderovic continued. “Our finishing is flawed, and it can cost us the three points in games.

“Watching back at the video footage of last week’s match against Canberra United, and looking at all the opportunities that we missed, there was potential there to win that match.

“There were also times where we could have kept the ball that little bit more, and go forward with it, to then have a chance on goal, it is a work in progress, but the girls but in the hard yards.

“We will look for our first win this weekend against Brisbane Roar by playing our football and hopefully get the goals.”

Adelaide United Women will take on Brisbane Roar on Sunday, 11 December 2016 in Round 6 of the Westfield W-League 2016/17 season at Suncorp Stadium. Kick-off is at 2:00pm ACDT.
