Carl Veart was thrilled with Adelaide United’s electric start to the contest against Newcastle Jets after scoring four first-half goals in a 4-1 win on Sunday evening.

Adelaide were formidable in the opening 45 minutes, producing its best attacking football of the season.

Kusini Yengi broke the deadlock five minutes into proceedings before Stefan Mauk added another soon after.

Ben Halloran then got on the scoresheet and Craig Goodwin converted a penalty as half-time approached.

“We went out there with the intent to take the game straight to the Jets,” Veart told reporters in the post-match press conference.

“And the boys to their credit the first-half was fantastic football – very happy.

“(I was) a little bit disappointed that we conceded a goal, it would’ve been nice to have a clean sheet but very happy with the overall performance.”

The Reds have now won five consecutive matches and Veart attributes their improvement to confidence coupled with the addition of Craig Goodwin.

“They’ve got the belief now in what we’re doing,” he explained.

“We’ve brought a little bit of quality in with Craig Goodwin that just gave us a little bit more experience on the park and since then when you’re winning matches its breeds confidence.”

Veart praised Yengi after scoring for the second straight game in what a dynamic appearance in just the 22-year-old’s third start for the Club.

However, he stressed he must continue to work hard in order to play with more consistency.

“You can see what type of kid he is by the way he plays the game,” he said.

“He plays with a lot of confidence, has a lot of belief in himself, but he’s still got a long way to go.

“He still needs to keep working, the second-half he sort of stopped doing what he was doing in the first-half.

“He was so dangerous in that first-half, I would’ve liked to have seen him go on and get a couple more goals.

“But we just keep working with him because when’s direct and plays simple he’s just a handful.”
