Carl Veart conceded Perth Glory were the superior outfit despite Adelaide United leading for the majority of the match.

Stefan Mauk fired the Reds in front with a 20th minute finish but the Glory struck twice in ten minutes after the re-start to secure the come-from-behind 2-1 win on Friday night.

“I think Perth were the better side,” Veart told reporters in the post-match press conference.

“They worked hard for their win and I suppose in the end they deserved it.”

Veart explained the reason for taking off Ben Halloran and Mauk with 20 minutes to go and felt the Reds lacked experience once the pair departed the contest.

“Benny took a knock in the first-half,” he said.

“So he tried to go as long as he could in the second-half and in the end he couldn’t go any longer with it.

“And Stefan he’s been in and out, and missed a lot of pre-season so physically he couldn’t play longer than that.

“In the end we lacked that bit of experience and I suppose that football smarts towards the end of the second-half.”

Veart added: “And when they’ve got the likes of (Diego) Castro, (Bruno) Fornaroli, and (Neil) Kilkenny they took control of the game.

“And for some reason we just kept dropping off, dropping off, dropping off and giving them far too much space and too much time.

“I don’t know what happened it was like someone flicked a confidence switch and we lost all of our confidence and stopped looked to play.”

The Reds will need to respond if it is to snap a two-game losing streak, starting with an away clash against new A-League outfit Macarthur FC this Friday.

“We just have to keep working in what we’re doing because when we do it right we do it well,” Veart continued.

“It’s just a matter of having that confidence and that belief in themselves to keep doing it.”
