Adelaide United FC would like to announce that current interim Coach Michael Valkanis will not be an applicant for the club’s vacant Head Coaching position.

Adelaide United FC would like to announce that current interim Coach Michael Valkanis will not be an applicant for the club-s vacant Head Coaching position, however he will continue in his former role as an Assistant Coach.

A former Reds skipper, Valkanis said he had made the decision not to put his hand up for the position some time ago.

“As I have said numerous times previously, I accepted the position only because of the sudden resignation of the previous coach and I was asked to step in and fill the role for the remainder of the season, which I have done,” Valkanis said.

“The last couple of months have been a great learning experience and a challenge which I enjoyed immensely, however I was and remain content to be an Assistant Coach and to spend time improving and learning under a Senior Coach, so for me that position has not changed.”

“I-m grateful to be a part of this club which is and will continue to be a great club in the future. I now look forward to working with the new coach whoever that may be and giving him the support and assistance necessary to make the club successful.”

Adelaide United Chairman Greg Griffin respects Valkanis- decision and thanked him for assisting the club in an interim coaching capacity.

“On behalf of the club we would like to express our appreciation to Michael for helping the club under sudden and difficult circumstances,” Mr. Griffin said.
