Adelaide United can advise Spanish pair Javi López and Juande have signed one-year contract extensions with the Club.

The duo’s current deals were set to expire at the conclusion of the campaign but will now remain with the Reds until the end of the A-League 2021/22 season.

López, 35, arrived from Espanyol after more than 250 appearances in La Liga and demonstrated his quality and experience.

Speaking about re-signing with the Club, López said: “My family and me are delighted to be here in Adelaide and we have really enjoyed our time so far.

“Staying here for another year has made them really happy and the Club and the fans have been great to me since I arrived.

“To have the opportunity to live in a city and country that’s really safe made it an easy decision for myself and my family to stay.

“We love the city of Adelaide and we’re also lucky to have friends here like Juande and his family.”

Meanwhile, Juande joined midseason following a stint in the Indian Super League and has also provided the Reds with immense pedigree having previously represented Real Betis and Spezia.

After putting pen-to-paper on a new contract, Juande said: “I’m so happy because I really wanted to come back to the A-League, so after this time it was a very good choice to come back to Australia with Adelaide.

“We also have a great opportunity to do something very special this season as we prepare for our first Finals game.

“For me it was an easy decision to stay because firstly I like this Club and I also love the changeroom because we have a very good group.

“In this period of my career, I try to think like a father. Adelaide is a great city, South Australia also is a great place for my children and for my family so the decision was so easy.”

Adelaide United Director of Football, Bruce Djite, said: “We’re delighted to have retained both Javi and Juande for next season.

“The experience and wisdom they’ve been able to impart has been invaluable and Carl (Veart) has also highlighted their importance in the dressing room.

“Both have showcased their undeniable quality this season and you can see the level of calmness, composure, and class they bring to the side.”
