Striker Bruce Djite is confident the Reds can bounce back from a second straight defeat and show some ‘true fighting spirit- when they front up against Sydney FC on New Years Eve.

The day after being part of a United team that was edged out 1-0 by Brisbane Roar, Djite was not mulling over the loss. Instead, he was excited about what kind of a challenge it had created for the Reds heading into the second half of the season.

“Two losses in a row is always a difficult one but it-s something we can definitely bounce back from,” Djite said.

“We-re still sitting second, we-ve put in the hard yards and been rewarded with that early in the season, obviously we get a bit of a hiccup now and maybe that-s good to test our character and show some true fighting spirit and show everyone we can bounce back and that we-re not just good when things are going right, but also when things aren-t going well.”

Having made his fifth successive start on Boxing Day against the Roar, Djite put in another mammoth shift as the Reds- target man, his bullocking work, on field presence and commitment a feature.

Obviously disappointed not to take any points out the game against the Roar, Djite said Coach John Kosmina-s message to the team after the game was a simple yet highly relevant one as the Reds prepare for another two matches within a short period.

“He (Kosmina) told us just to keep our heads up,” Djite said.

“He aid with so many games coming up and such a quick turn around, there-s no time to mope and sulk about things, you-ve got to pick yourself up and every player has to do that individually.”

“Everyone knows how to best motivate themselves so if all the boys can do that and if we can do that as a team then there-s no reason why we can-t bounce back against Sydney.”

“It-s a massive game with Del Piero coming and a big crowd on New Years Eve.”

One cannot change what has happened in the past but they can have a say on how upcoming events turn out, and this appears to be what Djite is set out on making sure of on Monday night. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
