Adelaide United made further progress after a dominant 5-3 win against Perth Glory according to Reds talisman Kristian Opseth.

The Norwegian striker was instrumental with a goal and two assists, helping maintain Adelaide’s finals aspirations and record their first win over Perth since February 2018.

Opseth scored for the third straight match since the relaunch and has bagged four goals in his previous five appearances.

“I think especially first-half, I think we were good,” he told Fox Sports after the match.

“I felt like we were running over them and it’s a big step in the right direction and in the second-half I felt like we could’ve done better.

“But scoring five goals and maybe not so happy about conceding three but all in all it’s a good game from us.”

Opseth was still bullish about Adelaide’s chances of securing finals football despite the odds stacked against them.

United currently lie sixth on the table, level with the Glory, and four points clear of seventh-placed Western United.

But the permutations will most likely change given Perth have played one less match, while Western have three matches in hand.

“I believe we can win every game,” Opseth said.

“So we just have to keep going like we’re doing and we’re doing something right.

“I feel like we’re taking steps every week so we just have to continue.”

Nineteen-year-old, Lachlan Brook and 20-year-old Pacifique Niyongabire both scored debut goals as Reds players and put in impressive shifts.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Taras Gomulka delivered another composed display in the centre of midfield.

Mohamed Toure and Louis D’Arrigo were also involved in Thursday night’s match off the bench.

Opseth praised the talent coming through the Club which has been made evident throughout the season in the number of young players getting opportunities.

“We’ve a lot of good youngsters in the team,” he said.

“They as well have taken steps so there’s a lot of positives.”
