Adelaide United slumped to a third consecutive loss following a dramatic 2-1 defeat against Newcast Jets in Round 13 of the Westfield W-League 2018/19 season.

Fanndís Friðriksdóttir restored parity for the Reds after Arin Gilliland-Wright struck first from the penalty spot at Marden Sports Complex on Friday.

Adelaide had a multitude of chances to put the game to bed but failed to capitalise and their profligacy proved costly as the Jets netted a stoppage time winner.

Ivan Karlović welcomed Icelandic duo, Gunnhildur Jónsdóttir and Friðriksdóttir, straight back into the starting line-up from international duty, while there was a first appearance for Kahlia Hogg on the bench.

It was an even start to the match from both teams before a horrific injury brought a sudden halt to proceedings in the eighth minute.

Larissa Crummer ran through on goal and collided with goalkeeper, Sarah Willacy, and the referee awarded a penalty following the coming together. The Matilda stayed down in agony after suffering what appeared to be a broken leg as paramedics treated her before she was stretchered off from the field.

After the lengthy delay – which lasted more than 13 minutes – Gilliland-Wright stepped up and converted the spot-kick.

Parity would soon be achieved, when Friðriksdóttir netted her second goal of the season after beating Hannah Brewer rifling her shot beyond the Jets’ goalkeeper.

Veronica Latsko then had two chances we have come accustomed to her burying but both one-on-one attempts on the angle struck the side netting.

The second-half saw the match ebb and flow with both sides enjoying possession.

Adelaide almost took the lead as Latsko was played through but dragged her shot wide, while the Reds continued to push for a winner.

But Newcastle scored a sucker punch on the break in injury time when Willacy parried a shot into the path of Panagiota Petratos who made no mistake.

Key moments:

8’ | Crummer is injured after an ugly collision with Willacy and the referee points to the spot.

22’ | GOAL: Gilliland-Wright confidently dispatches her penalty to open the scoring.

28’ | GOAL! Friðriksdóttir is quickest to react to the loose ball in the box and emphatically thumps her left-footed finished past Britt Eckerstrom.
