Adelaide United is excited to announce the signing of Slovenian striker, Džengis Čavušević, until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season.

The hard-working 30-year-old joins the Reds to help bolster the squad and solidify a place in the top six ahead of the upcoming Hyundai A-League Finals Series.

Čavušević began his career in his homeland before moving to Switzerland in 2010. The former Wil 1900, FC St. Gallen, and FC Zurich striker has also received two caps from Slovenia, featuring against Albania and Colombia.

Čavušević said he was thrilled to have joined Adelaide and is looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Hyundai A-League.

“I’m very happy to be here in Adelaide and I cannot wait to start training and playing with the team,” Čavušević said. “I’m excited for life in Australia, but the most important thing for me is the football and this is the first priority.

“I’ve looked at some websites about Adelaide and it is a city with nice beaches, good weather, but most importantly a great stadium for football.

“For me, the team comes first and I am not someone who will be only thinking of myself when on the football field.

“I’m here to win games and help the team and will give 100 per cent effort.”

Adelaide United Head Coach, Marco Kurz, said he was delighted to soon be working with Čavušević, saying the forward will suit the Reds seamlessly.

“I’m very happy that we have been able to bring Džengis to our Club for the rest of this season,” Kurz said. “Džengis will bring a lot of experience from Europe to our team and this will be important as we get closer to the finals.

“He is a very strong player and he is a hard worker, which I am sure will be a very good fit for our team.

“Because we have no game this weekend, signing Džengis now is good timing because he will have time to get used to our football before our next home game against Central Coast, which is important.”
