Adelaide United FC can confirm versatile Ukrainian Evgeniy Levchenko has signed a one year deal with the club.

Levchenko is scheduled to touch down in Adelaide on Saturday and Reds Head Coach Rini Coolen is confident the 33 year old, who is currently training in Holland, will become another significant addition to the Reds- squad following the already high profile signings of Dario Vidosic and Jon McKain in the past month.

“He (Levchenko) has played in the highest league in Holland with some good clubs,” Coolen said.

“He is a controlling midfielder with a lot of experience and it is also possible to play him as a left footed central defender. Together with knowing that he is also strong physically and a very good professional who has looked after his body very well, with all of those things together I have the confidence that he can complement our squad.”

“Knowing that he is 33 but that he is still a very fit player, it-s good that he wants to come and play in Australia and with Adelaide United.”

Levchenko-s career to date has included appearances for Ukraine-s national team during the country-s qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup, while the majority of his club football, of which he has played over 270 league games and scored 38 goals, has been spent in Holland.

Through his time playing in the Netherlands, the assets Levchenko brings to the field are well known to Coolen, who has put an emphasis on attracting players to the club who can fit into a range of positions.

Levchenko-s signing takes the Reds- squad list to 21 players and brings the club-s foreign quota to the maximum of five.
