Reds Rewind – Travis Dodd’s incredible strike

With Adelaide United hosting Perth Glory, our Reds Rewind series reflects on Travis Dodd’s stunning goal in 2006 against Friday night’s opponents.

Coming off the back of a resounding 5-1 win against Newcastle Jets a week earlier, the Reds were determined to build some momentum following an initial slow start to the 2006/07 campaign.

Already leading 1-0 thanks to Fernando Rech, Dodd doubled the advantage against the Glory in scorching fashion.

The attacker received a pass in midfield, took two touches to set himself and fired a ferocious shot from 25-yards out which left the Glory goalkeeper helpless.

That goal was Dodd’s first of the season as Adelaide went on to claim a 3-0 victory.

Dodd on that wonder goal…

“You get a couple of yards of space in and around the box and the only thought in your head is to hit the target, rather than thinking you’re going to put it top corner,” he said.

“For me it’s always been to try and make the ‘keeper make a save, and I guess at the time when you’re confident and you’re in a bit of a groove you back yourself to shoot from a bit further out.

“And it was certainly one that I hit pretty well and was able to get on the scoresheet.”
