The enormity of Adelaide United’s victory in Tashkent over Bunyodkor is one to savour.

From Adelaide United-s CEO…

“The enormity of Adelaide United’s victory in Tashkent over Bunyodkor is one to savour.

The AFC Champions League is the pinnacle for Hyundai A-League clubs yet leads to a congested schedule given the two competitions overlap each other. Adelaide’s domestic season has not fulfilled expectations for a myriad of reasons and as such the unique opportunity to participate in the ACL has provided an exciting opportunity.

The Reds- opponent last Tuesday night, Bunyodkor, is an outstanding club and proven ACL campaigner with budgets to match. In comparative terms Adelaide United is a minnow on the world stage, but outperform the status the team did with a resounding victory in testing circumstances.

After playing against Perth last Thursday in Adelaide, the squad travelled to Sydney on Friday for connecting flights to Tashkent for the match on Tuesday. Consider the following:

  • Six connections and 50 hours of flying there and back
  • Luggage included 5 complete kits for training and the match itself
  • Totally different cultures with catering provided by our own chef
  • And the weather! Adelaide is a far cry from Tashkent in March with temperatures dipping to near freezing in Uzbekistan.

In any season there can be highs and lows. Special moments last, and for the courageous team involved last night, it was a memorable night.”
