Chidiac returns to the Reds on a one-year contract after a breakout 2016/17 campaign which culminated in her claiming the Club’s W-League Rising Star Award.

The 18-year-old has amassed four caps with the Matildas, featuring in the 2017 Algarve Cup in Portugal and was a member of the victorious squad which won the Tournament of Nations in the United States.

Chidiac also played for AUFC Women in 2014, before moving to Melbourne City ahead of the Westfield W-League 2015/16 season, where she lifted both the Premiership and Championship.

Chidiac has recently spent the off-season with local club Adelaide City Women in the Playstation4 Women’s National Premier League.

The midfielder has accumulated a total of 17 appearances across her two spells with the Reds, scoring three goals in the process.

Speaking on re-signing with the Reds, Chidiac said: “It’s a great feeling knowing that I’ll be playing at home for another season with a club that has supported me from the beginning.”

Chidiac is adamant the Reds will enjoy a successful campaign and said the team’s main objective will be to qualify for a first-ever finals series.

“After last season I’m very confident that we are going to have a successful season and make a real impact on the league.

“We want to make history by making finals for the first time.

“I think if we build from our momentum we had at the end of last season and have a strong start that’s what’s going to help us achieve this goal.”

Women’s Team Head Coach, Ivan Karlović, said he is thrilled to have Chidiac signed for the impending season.

“Obviously we’re delighted to have Alex because she is a local girl and secondly because she is starting to progress her game and now forms part of the Matildas.

“We’re happy to have Alex on board and we’re looking forward to her having a fantastic year and helping us develop as a group and hope to achieve some success.”

Karlović said Chidiac’s experience will be an asset to the team despite her young age.

“She’s still a very young footballer and still learning the game.

“But she’s also been able to gain a lot of valuable experience at international level with the young Matildas and now with the Matildas squad.

“And I think she’ll be able to help some of our younger players to develop and hopefully form good partnerships and I think the side will only benefit from that.

“Once again we just hope to piece all the pieces of the puzzle and have Alex form part of that and put together a strong and competitive side.”

Karlović further revealed more player announcements will be made in the coming weeks as the Club has identified players to bolster the roster.

“We’re confident in our ability to secure some good players.

“Some players are to be retained from last season and some new faces will be brought in to hopefully strengthen the squad.”
