Central  Australia sports fans can now snap up tickets to see a slice of A-League action when the Reds take on Melbourne City in a pre-season clash at Anzac Oval on Saturday 23 August.

Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing Matt Conlan said the pre-season game will be part of a 3-day football feast that will also see Adelaide United take on the Alice Springs All Stars.

“Football is a very popular sport in Alice Springs, and I know that our local players lacing up their boots for the All Stars and will be keen to show Adelaide United their skills,” Mr Conlan said.

“We’re all looking forward to getting behind Adelaide United in their home away from home in Alice Springs as they take on Melbourne City, so I encourage everyone to come out and show them some strong Territory support.

“This match is part of the Northern Territory Government’s two-year agreement with Adelaide United to play trial matches, pre-season fixtures and hold training camps in Alice Springs.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to get the family together and enjoy a day of first-class football in our own beautiful backyard.

“The pre-season game is also a chance for Adelaide fans to head up the highway or board a plane to visit Alice Springs and Do the NT and experience what our unique Red Centre has to offer, while supporting their team.”

The Reds will use this time to not only gain valuable pre-season fitness but also help expand the Adelaide United brand that Territorians can connect and affiliate themselves with.

“This is fantastic for everyone involved,” Adelaide United CEO Michael Petrillo said.

“Alice Springs is an iconic destination and we urge all Reds fans to take the trip up there and enjoy both the location and the football. There has always been a natural connection between South Australia and the Territory and now that extends to football.

“The football program we have put into place with the NT will see participation in our sport increase in Central Australia and one day maybe produce a future Red.”
