Goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic says the arrival of new coach John Kosmina has put all of the players on notice and brought about renewed sense of vigour on the training track.

During his first day at training, Kosmina spent the majority of the session as an observer, leaving Assistant Coach Luciano Trani to take the squad through its paces. However, today was a different story as Kosmina began to inject his input on the group, Galekovic stating after the session that after just a day, the fierce competitiveness and siege mentality Kosmina has become renowned for was already evident.

“Kossie is known for that. He wants us to bring our passion to every training session and hopefully that flows into the games,” Galekovic said.

“It-s been good. It-s been very intense, it-s been sharp and obviously we-re looking forward to the game.”

“Obviously (when a new coach comes in) things change on the pitch and the boys are looking forward to it. I think there is a bit of optimism and we-re really looking forward to Thursday night.”

With Kosmina-s introduction, past reputations suddenly count for nothing among the playing group, which has triggered a healthy aggressiveness and shake up amongst the squad as players know they need to stake their claims for a position in the team under the Reds- new boss.

“I think you-ll maybe see a different style of play and I wouldn-t say hunger, but boys want to prove themselves, there-s a new coach on the scene and they want to keep their spots, so there is going to be fighting for places and the last two days at training have been quite aggressive so hopefully that continues,” Galekovic said.

“Everyone knows what you get with Kossie. If you don-t put in the hard work you-re not going to be in the team, so I can tell you that I think after 90 minutes there are going to be some tired boys out there on Thursday night and that-s how it should be, that-s what you play for, you want to work hard.”

It is dangerous to expect too much too early but Galekovic-s comments suggest that the signs already sound promising with Kosmina pulling the reins.
