Adelaide United will take on Melbourne Victory at Marden Sports Complex in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 at 7:00pm on Wednesday, 23 August 2017.

The decision has been made in conjunction with Football Federation Australia to truly embody the essence of the Westfield FFA Cup’s grassroots nature.

Head of the Hyundai A-League, Greg O’Rourke, said the match will be a wonderful occasion for South Australian’s and supporters of the Westfield FFA Cup alike.

“The FFA Cup sets out to be different experience for our fans, different venues, different opponents and very much a competition grounded in the grassroots of our game.

“The ability to host a game in a smaller boutique venue mid week is completely in line with our thinking at this stage of the Cup.

“We encourage all football fans in Adelaide to get to Marden and experience the difference that the FFA Cup can bring.”

The renowned National Premier League (NPL) venue has previously hosted two Westfield FFA Cup fixtures for United, both occasions seen Adelaide triumph.

The intimacy of the boutique complex provides a quality atmosphere and great viewing for supporters to enjoy Australia’s largest cup competition, giving back to the local NPL community by hosting a marquee, professional match-up within the Eastern suburbs of Adelaide.

Adelaide United Chief Executive Officer, Grant Mayer, praised the announcement, saying: “We are pleased that we have been afforded the opportunity to host this Westfield FFA Cup match at Marden Sports Complex.

“Through sharing this fixture with Adelaide Blue Eagles, it will see the NPL outfit benefit financially and keep with the grassroots nature of the competition.

“We are working closely with the South Australian Police and private security companies to ensure all patrons at Marden on Wednesday evening will feel safe in an environment that is to be shared by all lovers of football.

“Atmosphere in these matches is always fundamental for the enjoyment of all and as a result we have arranged a ticketing deal with our Active Supporters to ensure the team experiences the passion this competition offers.

“We will be addressing the small operational issues from the match against Newcastle Jets earlier this week and will ensure the venue will adequately host the more than 5,000 people we expect to be in attendance.”

Tickets for this match will be offered to Adelaide United members first through a pre-sale priority period, with it anticipated that all tickets will be sold prior to the matchday,

Members will be able to purchase two tickets each for the fixture.

Adelaide United Head Coach, Marco Kurz, praised the announcement, saying: “I am very happy to be returning to Marden to play this match.

“So far in the three games we have played here this season, the surface and stadium has been perfect for local football, which is what this competition is all about.

“At the moment we have not conceded a goal at this venue and are undefeated going into this big match.

“The team is excited for this game and we are hoping to feel the fans’ energy on the field throughout the 90 minutes.”
