Adelaide United FC-s quest for a first Hyundai A-League championship will begin with a trip west to tackle Perth Glory on Sunday 13 October 2013 before an opening home blockbuster against Melbourne Victory in Round 2 to celebrate the Reds- 10 year anniversary.

The Friday night clash with the Victory on October 18 will be the only time the Reds- traditional rivals will play in Adelaide and will mark the occasion of United-s first ever game which took place on October 17, 2003.

Two tough away trips against last season-s champions, the Central Coast Mariners, and Premier-s Plate holders, the Western Sydney Wanderers, will follow in Rounds 3 and 4 in what is sure to be a stern introduction to new Reds coach Josep Gombau-s time at the helm.

This morning-s release of the fixtures for Season 9 also revealed that the Reds will host Sydney FC twice, meaning the South Australian sporting public will almost certainly get to see the Sky Blues- Italian superstar Alessandro Del Piero play at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Former Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey is also scheduled to venture to Adelaide twice with the Newcastle Jets, with the other clubs the Reds will play host to on multiple occasions including the Mariners and Melbourne Heart.

The breakdown of the Reds- draw includes eight Friday night games (six of which are at home), four home matches of 12 on Saturdays, with the remaining seven encounters to be played on Sundays.

This season the Hyundai A-League will be broadcast on free-to-air television when the first of the weekly Friday night matches is broadcast live into homes on SBS2 and Fox Sports from 7.30pm. Fox Sports will for the ninth straight season show all matches of the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 Season and Hyundai A-League 2014 Finals Series exclusively live, with Friday nights shared with SBS2 at 7.30pm.

Season 9 will kick-off on October 11 with the Grand Final scheduled to be played on 4 May 2014.
