Reds head west wary of a resurgent Glory

Buoyed by last weekend-s win, Adelaide United FC goes in search of more glory on Sunday at nib Stadium against a Perth Glory outfit that is certain to be galvanised under a new coach and aiming to put a tumultuous week behind them.

It is no secret that teams generally respond strongly in their next game after a coach departs the scene and a new boss comes in, and that is exactly what the Reds will be confronted with against the Glory.

Midfielder Steven Lustica followed what has been a common theme at the Reds this week – which has been the injection of confidence the squad has received from the 4-0 result over the Central Coast Mariners.

Now the challenge is to try and back that up in Perth, something Lustica knows will be tough, particularly under the circumstances.

“We-ve got to be careful as well because teams always bounce back from that (a coach departing) so they-re going to be hungry to do well for their new coach, so we-ve got to just focus on our own game,” Lustica said.

“Obviously it was a positive result for us last week against the Mariners…I think it was a big confidence boost for us, especially going into the next couple of rounds – to get the win and put a lot of goals into the back of the net was a big boost for us.”

Lustica, who has played every game this season and finding his groove in a talented and improving midfield brigade, believes there is no complex formula in achieving back-to-back wins, but simply continuing on the process the Reds have building on over the first 10 weeks.

“I think it-s just a matter of making sure we keep our style and keep doing the right things, fixing up our mistakes and keeping the good things that we-re doing and make sure we-re consistent in that,” Lustica said.

The Reds escaped training in the 43 degree heat that swept across Adelaide yesterday but were out in similar conditions this morning, but Lustica believes it will hold the Reds in good stead on Sunday, particularly as it proved to be a scorcher when they were last in Perth back in Round 6.

“It-s starting to heat up a bit. We-ve been monitoring our training loads and making sure we-re on top of everything,” Lustica said.

“We-re looking forward to going to Perth and I-m sure it-s going to be hot over there as well so it-s good preparation for us.”

The Reds will be hoping to turn up the heat on the Glory further, as a win on Sunday would see Adelaide United leapfrog Perth on the table. Kick-Off is at 6.30pm ACDT.
