After five weeks off, Adelaide United-s squad officially returned to training today as the start of their thorough pre season campaign begins.

What is set to be the first of many at the club-s new training base in West Beach following confirmation of the club-s agreement with Adelaide Shores, the players were put through an hour long session to blow out the cobwebs and gauge initial fitness levels.

The majority of the squad, including new signings to the senior list Jordan Elsey and Awer Mabil, were on the track for the first session. Those absent comprised of Eugene Galekovic and Dario Vidosic, both of whom are currently part of Australia-s World Cup qualifying campaign, while Jon McKain, Bruce Djite and Cameron Watson were in Sydney as part of the Professional Footballers Association as they continue to negotiate the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Defender Nigel Boogaard, who got married in the off season, said it felt good getting back out on the park.

“It was a fairly light session just making sure everyone is in good enough shape to start again…it was a good hit out,” Boogaard said.

With new Head Coach Josep Gombau and his assistant Pau Marti not scheduled to arrive in Adelaide until mid July, they have set a plan and instructions in place for Assistant Coach Michael Valkanis, Goalkeeper Coach Peter Blazincic and High Performance Manager Sean Tagg to oversee the opening month of training.
