Reds to face Perth Glory in a closed pre-season trial

Adelaide United continues it’s pre-season training with a closed trial match against fellow Hyundai A-League opposition Perth Glory at Coopers Stadium on Thursday.

Head Coach Josep Gombau says the locked doors match will give youngsters an opportunity to prove themselves while giving new Spaniard Pablo Sánchez more game time.

“In this moment we have five or six players out injured,’’ said Gombau.

“Plus we have Paul Izzo, Ben Warland and Awer Mabil with the Young Socceroos – that’s a lot of players.

“But for us it’s a good opportunity to bring the kids in that have been training with us.

“We’ll see what happens but this game for me has a lot of value.

“I will play a lot of kids, they are training very well but it’s not the same to train and play.”

Gombau is determined to see whether his younger Reds can stand the challenge against Perth Glory, who already suffered a 1-0 loss to Reds in Sydney in July friendly.

“The challenge for me is to see all the kids respond against an A-League team.”

Cameron Watson (broken toe), Marcelo Carrusca (calf), Fabio Ferreira (ankle), Cassio (hamstring), Michael Marrone (broken leg), Osama Malik (calf strain), Jordan Elsey (broken arm), John Hall (knee) will all miss the clash.
