Adelaide United FC is delighted to officially announce the signing of local boy Craig Goodwin from the Newcastle Jets.

The talented left-sided player comes to the Reds having spent the last two seasons with the Jets where he made 42 appearances and scored 5 goals.

Goodwin left Adelaide for Melbourne as a 19 year old where he signed with Victorian Premier League side Oakleigh Cannons. The following year he was offered a contract to play with the Melbourne Heart Youth Team and in the same season he made his Hyundai A-League debut. After one season with the Heart, Goodwin then signed a two-year contract with the Newcastle Jets in 2012.

Signing a 2-year contract with Adelaide United FC, the exciting youngster is very keen to come back home and play for his childhood club.

“I’m very excited to join Adelaide United and to play the attacking brand of football under Josep Gombau,” said Goodwin.

“Having the opportunity to come back home and play in front of my family and friends on a regular basis and to play in the team I grew up watching, is something I will remember for the rest of my career.

“I just can’t wait to get started. I want to show everybody in Adelaide what I am all about and what I can bring to the team for this season and beyond.

“I felt I needed a change and that coming to Adelaide, back to my home-town, and being able to play for United in Josep Gombau’s style of play, will really suit the way I like to play.

“I would also like to thank Newcastle for two happy years. It’s a great town and a great club. I will never forget the boys and the team.”

Head Coach Josep Gombau is very happy to secure a left sided player and bring home another South Australian player.

“I am really pleased to have him in the team, he is player that can play both left back and left wing, positions we need to fill,” said Gombau.

“He’s a player that has experience in A-League and with the national teams.

“We are also bringing back home a South Australian boy, which follows our vision in having SA players at Adelaide United.”

Adelaide United Chief Executive Officer Michael Petrillo is also very pleased with securing Goodwin.

“We are very excited to be bringing home another South Australian, and importantly a young player who we hope will be a part of our club for the long-term,” said Petrillo.

“I would also like to thank the Newcastle Jets for their cooperation in making sure that the process happened very quickly and for assisting both parties to achieve a win-win out of the negotiations.”

Goodwin will arrive back home in Adelaide on Tuesday and will join the playing group the following day.
