Reds appoint coach selection panel

Adelaide United FC is pleased to announce it has compiled a highly credentialed and reputable selection panel to assist in finding the club’s next Head Coach.

Adelaide United FC is pleased to announce it has compiled a highly credentialed and reputable selection panel to assist in finding the club-s next Head Coach.

The Panel, to be chaired and overseen by Reds Board member Bruno Marveggio, will comprise of former Socceroos John Perin and Craig Foster, as well as current Port Adelaide High Performance Manager Darren Burgess, who has recently returned from a two year stint as the Head of Fitness & Conditioning for English Premier League club Liverpool.

Adelaide United has recognised a need to seek third party expertise in sourcing the best coach for the club going forward. Perin, Foster and Burgess were appointed on the basis that they would provide an intimate knowledge of the domestic and international aspects of the code along with an awareness and connection with Adelaide United.

The selection process will see the Panel in charge of sourcing the final interview candidates to recommend for the Club-s Board to consider and make the final decision. The new coach is expected to be finalised before the start of pre season training in the lead up to the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 Season.

Darren Burgess
Joining Port Adelaide-s AFL club as the Head Fitness Coach in the spring of 2004, Burgess has since spent three years at Football Federation Australia, where he played a key role in the Qantas Socceroos- build up to the 2010 World Cup, before he headed to England to join Liverpool-s ranks. He worked under managers Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers while at England-s version of the Reds, giving him valuable experience with the world game. He has since returned to Port Adelaide and the AFL, but brings a sound knowledge of team environments in the round ball game.

Craig Foster
Capped 29 times for the Socceroos between 1996-2000, Foster is a well respected figure of the game in Australia. He has served on the Australian Professional Footballers- Association Executive and is currently the chief football analyst on SBS, where is a constant figure on their main football program, The World Game. A passionate advocate of the ‘beautiful game-, Foster immerses himself in football and enjoyed a fine playing career, which included time at English clubs Portsmouth and Crystal Palace.

John Perin
A proud South Australian, Perin was Adelaide United-s inaugural Football Director when the club was first formed in 2003. A former Socceroo, Perin made five appearances for Australia-s national team, previously coached Adelaide City and is a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
