Flinders University is Adelaide United Football Club’s new Premier Partner for the 2019/20 season as part of a ground-breaking initiative to broaden the sport in South Australia.
Flinders University will feature on the front of the Reds’ home playing kit from Friday night, when United kicks-off the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season at Coopers Stadium.
Flinders University offers life-changing education opportunities to more than 25,000 students across their multiple campuses, with their Bedford Park campus their main grounds.
This partnership will see the Reds become even more active in the community, including in the southern suburbs. It will also provide Flinders University with more visibility among the thousands of young men and women playing the game at clubs and schools in SA.
This exciting partnership will see the Club establish a southern hub for a range of varying operations while also offering unique pathways for Flinders’ students into professional sport.
Adelaide United will also have opportunities to access Flinders’ renowned facilities to further its sports science programs.
Speaking on the partnership, Adelaide United Chief Executive Officer, Nathan Kosmina, said: “We are thrilled to work with one of the most exciting and ambitious universities in Australia.
“We share many similar values, particularly around sport, education, and the well-being of young people.
“We will work together across the South Australian community at various levels.
“As part the partnership we have the opportunity to enhance our sports science programs through Flinders University’s knowledge and resources, as well as provide students with unique industry experiences.
“We’re very excited to get this partnership underway and are looking forward to a prosperous relationship.”
Director of the SHAPE Research Centre at Flinders University, Professor Murray Drummond, said: “The agreement with Adelaide United will reinforce Flinders’ position at the forefront of sports science research and for giving our students essential opportunities to work within leading clubs – to benefit from real world experience.
“Sport is pivotal to our health and wellbeing, is an important social connector, and is a significant economic driver.
“By working with AUFC, Flinders can make advances that will benefit not just Adelaide United’s performance and profile but make a difference across the community.
“It all adds up to how Flinders can contribute more to a positive, active, and healthy society.”
