Therefore, Group E of the competition comprises of Adelaide United (AUS), Bunyodkor (UZB), Gamba Osaka (JPN) and the Pohang Steelers (KOR).

Remarkably, the Reds have faced all three of their opponents previously, having met both Bunyodkor and Gamba Osaka in the 2008 Semi Finals and Final respectively, while they have been drawn alongside Pohang in the Group Stage twice before, in 2008 and 2010.

Adelaide United opens its AFC Champions League 2012 campaign against Bunyodkor in Tashkent on March 6, with the Reds' first home game against Gamba Osaka on March 20.
