Pablo Sánchez eyes inaugural Cup Glory

Pablo Sánchez has stressed the importance of bringing home the first Westfield FFA Cup to Adelaide ahead of the Reds’ semi-final clash with Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday.

The forward has been training with the team from a back injury he suffered in our 1-0 win against Perth Glory two weeks ago.

Pablo says it would be a great moment for the city of Adelaide if United won the first Westfield FFA cup.

“It would be a great moment for the city to win the cup for the first time so we are taking this match very seriously.”

He says he will be able to fill the void left by the injured Bruce Djite.

“I can play in a forward’s position so I should be able to come in for Bruce.

“I feel comfortable in this part of the pitch and I’m very excited to (hopefully) be coming back.”

Adelaide United will be playing their second match in a week that consists of three home fixtures after drawing 0-0 to Sydney FC at the weekend.

The Reds were unlucky not to take all three points in the match on Friday night and Sánchez says that the team is focused on achieving more positive results.

“Our mind is at ease because we know we created a lot of chances (10) in the game against Sydney.

“Our coach has pointed out our mistakes so in this game we need to open up the pitch and make sure we finish our chances.”

Pablo Sánchez believes that the Reds are rested and ready to take on the Mariners on Wednesday.

“They’re a very good team defensively but when we have the ball we can make teams suffer.

“This will be important because the Mariners have had two days less rest than us so I think we can make them tired.

“We’ve been having a lot of ice baths and the physios have been working a lot so we will be ready for the match on Wednesday.”

Pablo will partake in the Reds’ final training session at Coopers Stadium tomorrow (Tuesday) before the match against Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday night.

Adelaide United will take on Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday 12 November 2014 at Coopers Stadium, Hindmarsh, in the Westfield FFA Cup Semifinals. Kick-off at 7:00pm ACDT. To purchase tickets, click here.
