The Reds newest Spanish acquisition is eager to get started with his new club.

Adelaide United FC’s newest signing, Pablo Sánchez Alberto, says he is incredibly happy to sign for the Reds and he cannot wait to begin the next phase of his career in South Australia.

After being officially announced by the club on Friday morning, Sánchez was introduced to his new teammates at his first training session at Coopers Stadium and said he has already been impressed by their abilities.

“I really like what I have seen so far and the style of football is very quick – just like the style of football I am used to from playing in Spain.”

Sánchez went on to say that prior to signing for the Reds, he spoke to fellow Spaniard, Sergio Cirio, about the club and city of Adelaide, which helped him to decide upon a move down-under.

“This is the first time I am playing outside of Spain, so it was a big decision for me, but everyone I have spoken to about Australia have only good things to say about it.

“The football is of a great quality and being that there are Spanish coaches and some Spanish players here already, these things helped with my decision.”

His new coach, Josep Gombau said Sánchez is exactly the type of player that the club needed, as his experience and versatility will surely prove invaluable in the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.

“We needed a player who can play in different positions,” said Gombau

“His previous clubs played in a very similar style to the type of football we play here at Adelaide United and this will help him to fit into our team much easier.”

Gombau also said that having played every league game for his previous club, Deportivo Lugo, last season, Sánchez is someone who is in very good physical condition.

“Because of the long flight he was on, we didn’t think it was best for him to start full-training straight away, but he will slowly be introduced to the squad and participate in all training sessions very soon because he is fit.

“We have games coming up in Alice Springs and providing all the official paperwork is processed in time, Pablo will be part of team that plays Melbourne City.”

The Reds trip to Alice Springs will commence on Thursday 21 August when they face an Alice Springs All-Stars team following a game against Melbourne City on Saturday 23 August.
