The Young Reds will host the Melbourne City’s Youth in Round 6 of the Foxtel National Youth League at the Elite Systems Football Centre on Saturday morning.
In what was a highly entertaining and end-to-end game of football with plenty of goals the last time these sides met, Adelaide United’s Youth Team are ready for the challenge their opponents pose.
Head Coach of the Young Reds, Michael Valkanis, knows the importance of the clash, as a win on Saturday will keep his side on top of Conference A.
“We are pretty aware of the situation at the moment,” said Valkanis. “We are on top of the ladder playing probably one of the strongest teams in the National Youth League.
“We are pretty positive about our past performances and we are looking forward to this game.
“The last time we played City, our second half, in particular, was where we really took the game to them and put them under a lot of pressure.
“So we will take a lot out of that second half performance and we will be mentally and physically prepared for this game on Saturday.”
Valkanis also stated that although Melbourne City are a very good youth side, he and his team will treat it like any other game, insisting that playing United’s system will go a long way in getting the three-points.
“We will treat this match like any other game,” said Valkanis. “For us, it’s just another game and we will concentrate on the task at hand and hopefully put out a good performance.
“Overall, if we perform well we should be able to get a good result at home and most importantly remain on top of the conference.”
The Adelaide United Youth Team currently sits in first position, two points in front of Melbourne City, meaning a win will send the Young Reds five points clear in Conference A of the National Youth League.
