Adelaide United Youth host MetroStars in what is expected to be an intriguing battle when the pair meet on Sunday afternoon at the VALO Football Centre.

A win for either team would help begin to establish some breathing room in the table as both make up seven teams from second place to eighth that have accrued 10 points.

Young Reds Captain, Louis D’Arrigo, believes it will be a tough contest against Metro, indicative of where both teams currently lie in the standings.

“I think it’s going to be a very hard game,” D’Arrigo said.

“We know they’re a very good team, but I think we need to break the deadlock and start punishing teams and getting more points than everyone else.

“Everyone is on the same points right now and I think we need to start jumping teams with results.”

Adelaide played out a 1-1 draw against a Croydon side last round which has not suffered a defeat this season, while Campbelltown City inflicted a 2-0 loss on Metro.

D’Arrigo felt his side were unfortunate not to secure the win after edging the clear-cut chances count.

“We played very well on the weekend and I think we were very unlucky not to get the three points,” he explained.

“The coach was happy and I think we’re very happy from the performance and very keen to play this match on Sunday.”

Despite the stalemate, the result did extend United’s unbeaten streak to three matches.

D’Arrigo, who made his Hyundai A-League as a late substitute against Sydney FC in March, said the team was travelling in the right direction.

However, the midfielder stated his side can improve on being more efficient in attack.

“I think our team has been very good on the ball and especially off the ball not to concede a lot of goals in the last couple of matches,” he said.

“But I think we need to improve on actually scoring goals and finishing teams, instead of scoring one or two goals a game and having eight shots a game. So maybe scoring a lot more goals than we should be.”
