The Young Reds face West Torrens Birkalla in Round 20 of the South Australian National Premier League 2018 Season at Adelaide Shores on Sunday.

Adelaide United Youth found themselves sharing the points against Adelaide Olympic in a 0-0 draw in Round 19.

Captain, Paul Wilson, was happy with the result and the point, even with finals on the horizon.

“It was a real testing game, because we were blooding a lot of youth, in these games because we’re having to, with less of the first team players being available,” Wilson said.

“I was proud of how we went, it was a hard-fought effort and a shame we couldn’t convert any of our chances, but we kept a clean sheet.”

The skipper was quick to mention the accolades of goalkeeper, Isaac Richards, during the game too.

“It’s always good having Isaac there, having him behind me means I can just focus on my job,” he said.

“And when the chips are down you know he’s coming up with the answers, especially in the last few weeks he’s been in tip top form.”

The Young Reds have another tough week on the road as they travel to face a Birkalla outfit, looking to avoid the drop zone.

United continue to hold strong in fifth place, looking again to secure a finals spot with the three points.

The game promises to be an interesting one, as Birkalla find themselves in a relegation battle and will be desperate for any points they can get their hands on.

Wilson was eagerly looking ahead to the test against Birkalla, with the fifth-place league spot in the forefront of his mind.

“That’s set to be another massive battle with trying to get out of the relegation zone and we want to play finals,” he said.

“That’ll be playing on their minds and we have to win this game and get a result to make our finals dream a reality.”

The centre-back was reflective on the previous outing against the Eagles, where they lost 2-1 to the side.

“It wasn’t our best performance and we always have slumps, everyone does, I think honestly we’re not thinking too much about that game,” he said.

“We can come into this game confident though, we’ve been keeping clean sheets, so if we can score we should come away with the points.”
