Adelaide United Youth return to action on Tuesday night to face Adelaide Comets at SA Athletics Stadium on short rest, in what is the rescheduled match after the initial Round 13 clash was abandoned over three weeks ago.
The Young Reds had taken a 1-0 lead as Ninko Beric scored inside two minutes in that game up at Loxton for the FFSA’s Regional Round.
However, just past the 30th minute mark inclement weather brought a halt to proceedings due to a severe thunderstorm.
Despite more than half an hour having elapsed, the match will be entirely replayed meaning United will not be able to carry their slender 1-0 advantage into the game.
Nevertheless, United can take confidence from their recent performances ahead of their meeting with the fourth-place Comets.
Paul Pezos’ side recorded an impressive come-from-behind 2-1 win over league leaders MetroStars and drew 1-1 with another title contender in Adelaide City.
That game with the Black and Whites on Saturday saw Pacifique Niyongabire break the deadlock in the second minute with a close-range finish, only for City to equalise in the second stanza in treacherous conditions.
The Young Reds remain in fifth spot on the table and aiming to further consolidate their top six status with the three points, and in the process distance themselves from the chasing pack.
United, three matches unbeaten, must be at their best against a team that won the Preliminary FFA Cup Final and have avoided defeat in their last seven regular season games.
However, in the reverse fixture, the Reds did overcome Comets 2-0 back in Round 2, thanks to a first-half Niyongabire brace. No doubt a repeat of that display will be highly desired.
Adelaide United Youth face Adelaide Comets in Round 13 of the National Premier League 2018 season on Tuesday, 19 June at SA Athletics Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.30 PM ACST.
