Riley McGree expressed his delight as Adelaide United won a 4-3 thriller over Western United at Whitten Oval on Australia Day.

The Reds found a way to collect all three points after initially throwing away a two-goal advantage early in the second-half.

McGree, who scored United’s third to make it 3-1 in the 18th minute, was thrilled to score his eighth goal in the Hyundai A-League this season.

The 21-year-old also hailed the fact that his side created an abundance of opportunities and was just glad they managed to fight back and secure the victory after Nathan Konstandopoulos’ stunning strike.

Nikola Mileusnić had bagged a clinical brace incredibly inside 15 minutes.

“As a team we’re getting forward, we’re creating chances and we got a goal in the end to win it so it’s great,” McGree told Fox Sports after the match.

McGree acknowledged the team’s need to improve defensively, but suggested their ability to re-take the lead after conceding two goals either side of half-time was a testament to their character.

“We were a bit sloppy at times and there were things we can definitely fix,” he said.

“We shouldn’t have gone back level, but that’s football, and we got back and we did get the goal to get the result so very happy.”

The win sees Adelaide climb into fifth spot with 21 points and in doing so leapfrog Mark Rudan’s outfit.
