Adelaide United Football Club is delighted to announce the re-signing of versatile defender and local South Australian, Michael Marrone, until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.
Marrone, whose contract has been extended by two years after it was set to expire at the end of this season, is currently in his second stint at the club after returning to Adelaide in 2013. His re-signing also bolsters the already substantial local-player contingent at the club.
Speaking about his contract extension, Marrone, who has made a total of 52 appearances for Adelaide United throughout his two spells as a Red, said that his first choice was to re-sign with the club.
“The coaches mentioned that they were happy with how I was playing and I’m enjoying my football here so it was an easy choice to re-sign,” the 28-year-old said.
“The coach committing to the club was a big factor in me re-signing also, players want to play the style he has brought in and we can challenge for the title so there was no reason not to stay.
“We have this squad until the end of the year and when everyone is fit we can go into every game thinking we can leave with maximum points.
“I haven’t had that luxury at other clubs and I’d love to win a Hyundai A-League title while I’m here.”
Coach Josep Gombau expressed his delight at keeping another local player at the club in Marrone.
“He is a good signing because he’s from South Australia and we trust in the people from here and he has been doing very, very well since recovering from injury,” he said.
“He’s a player with a lot of experience who has played in the Hyundai A-League and overseas and he adds a lot to our backline both in defence and going forward.
“We are so happy to have him here for another two seasons.”
