After his match-winning goal against Brisbane Roar in last night’s first elimination final, Adelaide United winger, Awer Mabil, heaped praise on his teammates for the tremendous effort they put in throughout the match.

Speaking to the media prior to the Reds’ recovery session following Friday night’s nail-biting 2-1 victory over the reigning Hyundai A-League champions, Brisbane Roar, Awer Mabil said his goal “just happened” and stated not much thought went into his finish.

“It was a good result for the boys who have all worked hard throughout the year,” Mabil said.

“It all just happened and I didn’t think about what I was going to do. I was surprised it went in as well, but a goal is a goal.

“(Josep said to me) if I got a chance, to do whatever I could to change the game. (And) if I can come on and do my part, even better.

“But the credit has to be given to (my teammates). They’d run throughout the game (last night) and there wasn’t anyone who didn’t give 100 per cent.”

With sights now firmly set on next week’s semi-final against Sydney FC, Mabil made clear that all attention has now been directed towards the Sky Blues, with the Reds doing everything possible to prepare for the match in the best way.

“Anything is possible,” Mabil explained. “The boys are working really hard and I’m sure we’re going to start the week off good by going into training and preparing ourselves right for Sydney.

“We’re not scared of anyone. On our day I think we can beat any team, so this is just about preparing ourselves and getting ready for the Sydney game.

“We need to go all the way. We’re not just a club that’s happy to win yesterday and then just go and lose next week. We want to go and win against Sydney and go all the way to the grand final. That’s our aim.”

Adelaide United will face Sydney FC in the semi-final of the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, 9 May 2015. Kick-off 7.00pm (ACST).
