Lady Reds Ready to Roar

Lady Reds coach Dave Edmondson said his side is playing with enough confidence to bounce back from consecutive losses and cause Brisbane Roar plenty of problems when they meet at Hindmarsh Stadium on Saturday in Round 4 of the Westfield W-League.

Brisbane Roar are also on the back of a loss after a 3-1 defeat to Sydney last week and Edmondson expects last season-s runners-up to be eager to atone.

But, with the recent performances Adelaide United have shown, Edmondson is confident the Lady Reds will be amongst the points on Saturday.

“Brisbane has a strong side, with four or five Matildas, so they will be tough,” he said.

“With players like Katrina Gorry, Tameka Butt and Emily Gielnik they will be a force going forward and with Claire Polkinghorne and Laura Alleway at the back, they will be tough to break down.”

“But, we are playing with confidence and with the expected home support at Hindmarsh, I am sure we will be able to cause them some problems.”

“No team likes to lose and I am sure they will be looking to bounce back. As most teams and ourselves included, they will go into every game looking to win and losing last week wont change that, as it doesn-t for us.”

Despite losing 3-1 Canberra United last week, Edmondson admitted he was delighted with the performance against the defending champions.

The Lady Reds coach conceded with some notable absentees they were forced into a change of game plan and it almost paid off after taking a 1-0 lead just before half time.

However, Canberra-s star quality and experience saw them score three late goals.

“With a couple of key players out, the performance was excellent,” he said.

“We had a game plan adapted to play Canberra and for the majority of the game it worked perfectly. We denied Canberra space in behind us where they like to exploit their pace and looked to counter attack them.”

“We defended solidly and Holy Patterson, Georgia Macri and Racheal Quigley provided a real threat on the counter. So, overall a pleasing performance but not a pleasing result.”

Ticket prices are just $5 for Adults and $2 for Concession and Kids Under 16.
