A hat-trick to Victory star Caitlin Friend ensured all three points for the hosts while Jodie Taylor also found the back of the net in a dominant display.
After consecutive losses, Melbourne returned to the winner-s list while after a couple of spirited performances, the Lady Reds are still searching for their first points of the season.
Friend opened the scoring just on the quarter hour converting a cross from close range before Taylor made it two a short time later with a sweetly struck free kick which beat Lady Reds keeper Sian McLaren as the ball flew in off the cross bar.
McLaren was making her first appearance for the season after recovering from a serious knee injury.
Marijana Rajcic enjoyed a rare chance for Adelaide United but skewed her shot from inside the area just before the break.
Friend then doubled her tally just before the hour turning in Rebecca Stott-s delivery and with ten minutes remaining completed her hat-trick with a shot from the edge of the area.
Adelaide United will next host Sydney FC at Hindmarsh Stadium on Saturday in the ABC Broadcast Match of the Week.
The match kicks off at 2:30pm with Sydney FC sitting in third on seven points, equal with second placed Brisbane Roar.
