Ryan Kitto is confident Adelaide United can overcome their wastefulness in front of goal ahead of the latest instalment of the Original Rivalry on Wednesday night.

The Reds host old foes Melbourne Victory in Round 12 at Coopers Stadium in what is typically a highly-charged encounter.

The 24-year-old winger said he was looking forward to the match and hoped Reds fans will come out in their thousands to show their support.

“I can’t wait,” Kitto said, following a recovery session at Next Gen. “It’s obviously the game you look forward to most.

“I’ve heard Victory are bringing a lot of fans across so it’s important we’ve good numbers and good support for ourselves as well.

“We’ll be ready and are looking forward to the game.”

Adelaide were held to a 0-0 draw against 10-man Wellington Phoenix on Saturday.

Kitto admitted it was frustrating not to be able to convert any of their chances and capitalise on the numerical advantage after Mandi’s dismissal.

“I think the first-half was quite an even contest and there was a lot of long balls played,” he said.

“I think the second-half we were able to play some football and create good opportunities.

“But unfortunately, we couldn’t put the ball into the back-of-the-net, and at the end of the day that’s what counts.”

Kitto believed there are a number of facets of their game they can improve, from finishing to creating more clear-cut scoring opportunities.

“I think we can improve in all parts,” he reflected.

“I think some of our balls coming into the box are good and they should be getting put away, but we’re probably not creating enough good opportunities.

“So I think we just have to keep going, keep working hard and keep believing in ourselves.”
