Kamau signs first professional contract with the Reds

The news just isn’t stopping as the Reds announce a further signing with young exciting winger Bruce Kamau today signing a one-year contract with the Reds for the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season.

Kamau has been training with the youth team for two years, and made his senior debut against Malaga CF, a night he says is a career highlight for him so far.

“I only found out days before that match that I would be included in the squad, but to come on and play against a La Liga side was a dream come true.”

Since then, he made his professional debut against Wellington Phoenix in the Westfield FFA Cup, his Hyundai A-League debut against Brisbane Roar in Round one of this season.

“I think I’ve done well so far this season, but with the injuries I’ve had I haven’t been able to play at my best,” said the 19-year-old.

“Signing this contract shows that the club has trust in me for the upcoming season and I’m planning on stepping it up another level for the rest of this season and beyond.”

Already a Westfield FFA Cup winner, Kamau is currently in his second youth team season, and credits Michael Valkanis and Angelo Costanzo, as well as the culture Josep Gombau has brought to the club, in allowing him to make that next step.

“The youth team play the same as the first team and this is credit to the coaching staff in that they allow for a smooth transition into the first team,” said Kamau.

“As long as you know the system, the club will always give you the chance to progress.

“This culture that Josep Gombau and further Guillermo Amor (Technical Director) has brought in, as well as growing up in Adelaide and being a follower of this club, made it a no-brainer for me to sign my first professional contract with the Reds.”

Playing as a left or right winger, Kamau knows that he still has to work hard to cement his spot in the first team, a short-term goal he is hoping to reach by the start of the new season.

“I am going to do the best that I can to make it into the starting 11 and then from there become a regular starter for this club.”

Head Coach Josep Gombau who gave Kamau his chance with the Reds was quick to praise the youngster.

“We as a club are very happy that Bruce has signed a contract with us,” said Gombau.

“Bruce has improved so much as a player this season and we offered this contract to him because he deserved and earned it.

“He is a player from South Australia and he is one of the products of our Youth program and it’s a big value for us to promote players from within the club”

Adelaide United fans can be hopeful of seeing a lot more of the explosive Bruce Kamau in the years to come.
