It all comes down to this for the Reds

On the eve of Adelaide United FC’s Elimination Final for the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 Season, Club Captain Eugene Galekovic said there's no reason why the Reds can't create history and become the first team to win the A-League championship from sixth spot.

On the eve of Adelaide United FC-s Elimination Final for the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 Season, Club Captain Eugene Galekovic said there's no reason why the Reds can't create history and become the first team to win the A-League championship from sixth spot.

As the Reds finalised preparations for their mission of trying to topple last season-s champions on their own patch, Galekovic emphasised “we know how they play, and we-re just going to adapt and break them down.”

“We will play our own way, and with that, give ourselves a good chance.

"It's easy to say we'll just try to do our best and try to achieve as much as we can.

"But in 10 years, we haven't won anything at this football club. I want to win a trophy and the group is very motivated to win one as well. We're a good chance to win one now - why not?"

With the contract extension of Josep Gombau yesterday, Galekovic was also quick to praise Gomabu and the work he has done for the club.

"You can talk about styles, but I just think it's a very tight-knit group now and that is credit to him," he said.

"We're playing for each other and we're getting results.

"We haven't achieved anything yet but we're onto something and hopefully that happens this finals series."

Nigel Boogaard, after his announcement of his one-year contract extension, explained that, “This year we-ve got the confidence, that no matter who we play against we can get a result if we stick to our game plan,”

“We-ve got a good group, we know how we want to play and we don-t fear anyone, so hopefully this is our year.”

The Mariners and Reds will meet for the fourth time this campaign as the Hyundai A-League season enters its cut throat stage, with the top six to be reduced to four at the end of the finals series- opening weekend.

United lost to the Mariners away from home back in October last year, but the next two encounters were home wins for the Reds.
