Adelaide United would like to provide the following statement regarding the future of Isaías Sànchez.

Adelaide United can officially confirm Captain, Isaías Sànchez, has decided to leave the Club to explore an opportunity overseas.

The Spaniard moved to Adelaide ahead of the 2013/14 campaign and went on to enjoy immense success over the next six years, winning four trophies and countless individual honours.

His incredible level of consistency quickly endeared himself to Reds supporters, while building a reputation as one of the Hyundai A-League’s best midfielders.

Isaías won two FFA Cups in 2014 and 2018 and was also a part of the side that clinched an unprecedented Premiership and Championship double in 2016, scoring a trademark free-kick in the Grand Final triumph over Western Sydney Wanderers.

The 32-year-old received the Aurelio Vidmar Club Champion Award a Club-record four times, after collecting the accolade for the third straight time last month.

Isaías, who served as the Club’s Captain for the previous two seasons, accumulated 181 appearances across all competitions – ranking second on the Reds’ all-time list – and scored 10 goals.

Speaking on his decision to depart Adelaide, Isaías said: “This was a very difficult decision for me to make, but one that I have made for the benefit of my family.

“Even though the Club expressed its desire to keep me in Adelaide, they have been very understanding and I am very thankful to them for this.

“Coming to Adelaide was an amazing opportunity for me and I will always be grateful for the wonderful things that have happened to me while I’ve been here.

“I will always be an Adelaide United fan and will always have a special place in my heart for this Club.”

Adelaide United Chairman, Piet van der Pol said: “Isaías has been a tremendous servant and ambassador to this Club since he arrived.

“When he informed us of an opportunity elsewhere, we had already begun discussions with him about his future.

“However, we did not want to stand in the way of one of the longest-serving players in securing such a beneficial move.

“On behalf of all Adelaide United supporters, I’d like wish Isaìas and his family all the best for their future.

“They will always be welcomed back here with the Reds with open arms.”

Adelaide United would like to thank Isaías for his time at the Club and wish him the best for the future.
