Adelaide United Captain, Isaías, is thrilled to be back and hopes that a gruelling pre-season can translate into a prosperous 2018/19 campaign.

It is the influential Spaniard’s sixth pre-season as a Red and Isaías revealed he is excited about getting another one under his belt with the ambition of realising success in the future.

“I’m very happy that I’m back in Adelaide with the team and that we’ve started pre-season,” Isaías said, who returned to his native Spain over the break.

“And I’m looking forward to having a successful season.”

After re-charging the batteries, the three-time Aurelio Vidmar Club Champion Award winner said his primary aim was to reach a high fitness level ahead of Adelaide’s Round of 32 FFA Cup 2018 clash against Central Coast Mariners.

“We know that it’s a long pre-season, but the main thing in pre-season is to get fit,” he said.

“And to be ready for the season and I think the first goal is the first game that we have against Central Coast and that’s the main thing right now.”

The Reds host the Mariners at Marden Sports Complex in just under a month and while advancing to the last 16 will be United’s obvious target, he admitted the immediate focus is just about getting as fit as possible.

“For us as the players the best thing is to play games and to compete,” he explained.

“But right now the most important thing is to train hard and to keep the hard work in the legs and in a couple of weeks we’ll start to think about Central Coast.”

Isaías also praised the new additions of Craig Goodwin and Michael Jakobsen after the duo joined the Club on three and two-year deals respectively.

He believed the two acquisitions have bolstered the squad.

“I know both players because Jakobsen played at Melbourne City last season,” he said.

“And I played obviously with Craig (Goodwin) and they’re very good boys and very good players, and I know that they’ll bring us quality and experience.”

Adelaide United host Central Coast Mariners in the Round of 32 of the FFA Cup 2018 on Wednesday, 1 August at Marden Sports Complex. Kick-off is at 7.00 PM ACST.
