Adelaide United Captain, Isaías, believes collecting a timely victory was the most crucial aspect after beating Central Coast Mariners 1-0 in Gosford.

The influential Spaniard dispatched a brilliant volley which flew beyond Ben Kennedy in goal in the 35th minute to end United’s three-game goal drought.

That strike also helped snap a run of five matches without a win for the Reds, and in the process see them climb above Melbourne City into fifth spot.

Speaking after the game Isaías admitted it was not his side’s best performance but that was the least of their concerns.

“We haven’t played our best football I think tonight,” he told Fox Sports.

“But we got the three points and I think that’s the most important thing.”

It was the 32-year-old’s third goal of the season and third career goal against Central Coast.

Isaías said he was pleased his goal played a massive part in securing a much needed three points.

“I’m very happy to help the team score goals,” he said.

“I’m not used to scoring goals as you know, but I’m happy to help the team and as I said it’s three very important points.”

Adelaide have now distanced themselves by eight points over seventh-placed Newcastle Jets and are three points adrift of Wellington Phoenix in fourth spot – this weekend’s opponents at Coopers Stadium.

Adelaide United host Wellington Phoenix in Round 24 of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season on Sunday, 7 April at Coopers Stadium. Kick-off is at 4.30pm ACDT. Gates open 3.30pm.
