Adelaide United Captain, Isaías, says he is proud after the Club hoisted the FFA Cup trophy for a record second time.

An inspired performance from Craig Goodwin helped the Reds produce a 2-1 win over Sydney FC at Coopers Stadium on Tuesday night.

Goodwin bagged an impressive double courtesy of two stunning strikes, his first a free-kick before rifling home a right-footed strike to give United the lead.

Isaías said winning the cup was vindication of the team’s desire and commitment during the pre-season.

“I’m so happy, we worked really hard during the whole pre-season to arrive to this moment,” Isaías said.

“Finally, we got the cup and it was the main thing at the start of the pre-season and we’re really happy to get the cup, and show it off in front of our supporters is so important for us.”

The 31-year-old is no stranger to magical nights at Coopers Stadium but said the atmosphere generated by the 14,448 fans at the FFA Cup 2018 Final ranks up there with some of the best he has experienced.

“Having played in a lot of different games here at Coopers Stadium it was one of the most special ones,” he said.

“And I’m really thankful with all the supporters today, they were fantastic.”

When Adam Le Fondre equalised from the penalty spot for the Sky Blues, it was the first goal Adelaide had conceded all tournament.

Nevertheless, it meant Adelaide did not ship a goal in open play.

Isaías, who won the inaugural competition in 2014, said that was a testament to the coaching staff’s attention to detail and of course the players.

“As I said before I think it’s all about the hard work we have done in whole pre-season,” he continued.

“And I think with Marco (Kurz) we’ve done an amazing job.”

The influential midfielder also reserved praised for Mark Viduka medallist, Goodwin, whose sensational brace and display powered Adelaide to the victory.

“He scored two crackers, two amazing goals and I’m very happy for him,” he said.

“I know he’s a good player, he’s a very good person also inside the change room and I’m very happy with him and very happy with the whole team.”
