Adelaide United vs Newcastle Jets Hyundai A-League Round 15

Adelaide United host Newcastle Jets at Coopers Stadium on Sunday evening, desperate to get their season back on track.

The Reds have suffered three successive losses, which included a frustrating 5-1 home defeat against Western United last weekend.

Gertjan Verbeek’s side currently sits outside of the top six, due to an inferior goal difference and know just how crucial tomorrow’s match is if they are to remain in finals contention.

Newcastle come into the clash off a bye having not lost a game in five matches – with new boss, Carl Robinson overseeing the last four games.

The Jets edged Perth Glory 2-1 a fortnight ago and are a much better side than their ladder position of tenth suggests, based on current form.

However, Adelaide have had the wood over the Novocastrian outfit in recent times, unbeaten in their preceding six encounters.

United have also recorded back-to-back 2-1 wins this season and a victory on Sunday would be the first time the Reds have secured three consecutive triumphs against Newcastle.

An intriguing battle is expected to play out knowing what is at stake for the Reds, who will have next weekend off as a result of a bye, before a tricky schedule to finish the campaign.
